Understanding In-Situ Programming for Smart Home Automation

Programming a smart home is an iterative process in which users configure and test the automation during in-situ experience with IoT space. However, current end-user programming mechanisms are primarily preset configurations on GUI fail to leverage behaviors context. This paper proposed (ISP) as novel paradigm for AIoT that extensively leverages users' natural interaction environment. We built Wizard-of-Oz system conducted user-enactment study explore behavior models this paradigm. identified dynamic flow participants iteratively confirm through query, control, edit, test. especially method "snapshot" configuration "simulation" testing, ambient responses interaction. Based our findings, we design spaces flow, coherency clarity of interface, state scene management build ideal experience.
